i'd like to say a few words about Irakly Shanidze. i have been watching this since it began and have kept silent, and so in hopes of ending this once and for all allow me to say a few words. i know Irakly very well. i have not only modeled for him, but am a former student, and not a three day event where it is most difficult to know anyone with any certainty. these things as well as he's a neighbor and friend so i think i have a pretty good basis for a comment.
to the charge "those who can do, those who cannot teach" in many cases--in most cases--this is true. in Irakly Shanideze, it is the exception. irakly teaches by choice, for the soul. He has already proven he is more than capable on the big stage--maybe you've heard of a few, Prada, Louis Vitton??? if he wanted to be a whore for advertising execs he would be, but he has chosen to turn away from that--chosen--to do something more suited to his constitution, teaching in which he has also proven to be a proficient, capable and well liked by the majority. i cannot speak to the few that may have had issue, in a bag of nuts one or two will, inevitably, be spoiled.....
to the not so subtle insinuations about coming to america, visa status and legal issues. the only reason you can make comment is because he is a public figure and his woes are in places you can read about them. and as we all know--hopefully--things in the press are usually very mis-representing of the truth......so far, despite this rude fact i have only ever seen Irakly respond to these things with grace and civility, a trait that could not exist in someone so "young at heart".
to the comments being a biznessman. again--there is something wrong with advertising a service? if i wish to hold a cooking class i do not go to one store to post my ad, i go to all of them, why is it different here? it is all of you who responded so passionately that it was even brought up, seemingly insulted that you were ever bothered with the news in the first place. it was at this point you had a choice--again i speak of choice--to not respond, to say "eh, irakly's not my thing, i don't care about seminar" and move on, click and read another post. but many of you didn't and i wonder why. no, actually, i do not not. this was a rare opportunity to vent some long time held grievances in a place where you might be heard and people might respond to you.
to the attacks on his PR man. i am fairly certain that half of the artist here--if there are any--would love to have someone half as passionate and enthusiastic about Your work and art as this mr Dimirty is about his freind and teacher Irakly, so again this comes across--from a purely objective "ugly american" view--as nothing more than more of the same-envy shabbily packaged in venomous intellectualism. it is ugly and obvious to anyone with a sensitivity.
to the point of--"the economics times are hard why spend money on this?" my only response to this is--there is nothing more important than the journey of the soul. if yours journey isn't photography, choose something else but don't piss on the parade of those whose it is......
with that said if your journey is photography and you are offered the opportunity to be his student do it, you will not regret.
now, to the answer to the question--who the hell am and how did i find this? i as, i said am a friend, a former student and a neighbor. i am also a fan and because Irakly is a truly good person he will not be half as rude as i, a stranger giving an unsolicited comment from across the land and sea. and how i found this. very simple--i have Google.
with all sincerity in my heart from a a land far away, i hope this is the last response to this. that is all.
sincerely,
The "Devils" Advocate
