IREX (the International Research & Exchanges Board) is a US nonprofit organization specializing in education, independent media, Internet development, and civil society programs in the United States, Europe, Eurasia, the Middle East and North Africa, and Asia.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Muskie Program Assistant will be a key member of the Education Programs Division (EPD). The Program Assistant will be chiefly responsible for assisting the Regional Director in the implementation of the Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program. The Edmund S Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State. The Program Assistant will also be expected to provide support to other EPD activities as requested by the Program Manager.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide direct assistance to the Regional Director in managing all aspects of the program, including but not limited to:

Recruitment Activities
- Plan for recruitment: set up meetings, send out required information, contact IREX representative offices
- Deliver informational lectures throughout Kazakhstan
- Conduct consultations for the program
- Work with database applications
- Correspond with candidates during all phases of selection

Selection Activities
- Coordinate exams and interviews for semi-finalists
- Assist with travel, visa, and program inquiries for semi-finalists

Pre-Departure Activities
- Assist with the creation and management of orientations and workshops
- Assist with travel and visa logistics for finalists

Alumni Activities
- Organize activities for alumni of US Government Exchange Programs on a monthly basis

Additional Duties
- Answer written and telephone inquiries about the program throughout the year
- Assist with program reports
- Organize logistics for conferences, meetings, etc.
- Translate program materials from English into Russian and/or Kazakh and from Russian and/or Kazakh into English, as appropriate
- Other duties as assigned

- University degree
- High level of competency in written and spoken English
- Ability to handle multiple tasks at once
- Ability to speak comfortably in front of large audiences
- Preference will be given to exchange program alumni
